Wallpaper Removal & Retexturing
Wallpaper removal can be one of the most difficult jobs to quote at a fixed priced because there are several factors involved, none of which you know the answer to unless you originally installed the wallpaper.
For example, installers use glue when hanging the wallpaper. Typically the walls are “sized” which means the wall surface has been sealed with a primer or sealer prior to hanging the wallpaper. In this case, the wallpaper will generally come off by steaming the over the wallpaper or by applying a solution to dissolve the wallpaper glue. However, in situations where the walls were not properly prepared before hanging the wallpaper, it may be more difficult to remove. If the wallpaper was applied directly to the bare drywall, you could damage the drywall in the process of removing the wallpaper. In this situation it is sometimes best to prime over the existing wallpaper, then skim coat the walls with drywall mud or joint compound. The walls will then be ready for texturing or painting. In either situation, after the wallpaper has been removed the walls need to be washed with a TSP solution to make sure all of the remaining glue has been removed.
At Mr. D’s Painting we are experienced in removing wallpaper in both situations and have always been able to provide our customers with a professional, quality results.
