Drywall comes in different thickness and there is different drywall for each room or wall in your home. Fireproof drywall is 5/8 inch thick and is typically installed in over areas where protection is needed as in the kitchen or the wall between your home and garage. Greenboard drywall is usually installed in bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens, typically in areas where water is being used.
Most outer walls and ceilings have 1/2 inch drywall. Generally, when drywall is installed there is a thin coat of joint compound or drywall mud applied over it to make the surfaces smooth, then texture is applied on top of that. Texture is applied to hide the seams and provide a uniform finish. Texture can be applied several ways. For example, there is the hand trowel or skip trowel texture that is normally applied to ceilings and walls in newer homes, whereas orange peel texture is usually applied with a hopper and compressed air. Mr. D’s will be able to match your existing wall texture when repairing a small hole or crack in your drywall, or will apply new texture when installing several sheets of drywall. In either case, you will receive professionally looking results.
